Team Pink or Team Blue

Fun Old Wives Tales
Since this is our last baby...Dan and I have decided to be team green (meaning we aren't finding out the sex of the baby). Just for fun we compiled a list of Old Wives Tales and what the ultimate prediction was... team pink or team blue.

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate
If the baby's heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy. (First time we heard the baby's heartbeat it was 160, second time was 185, and the third time was 155. With Logan his heart rate was always in the 130-150 range) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of the Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it's a boy. (I think it may still be too early to determine) Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it's a boy if it swings in a circle. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it's a girl. It's thought that ace during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty food while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl. (Definitely been eating the fruits, but not really sweets) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a "V" or "branches" appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a "V" or "branches" in the white part, you're having a girl. (Really odd, but no "V") Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #7: Legs
If your legs get really big, you're having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it's a girl. (It may be too early for me to tell on this one, but so far I'm only gaining in the torso) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #8: The Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived. ( 27 and January) Prediction Outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #9: Mom's Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl "steals" the mother's beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is. (Definitely no glow here) Prediction Outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale#10: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having. (Well, last night I dreamed of having a little boy) Prediction Outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #11: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she's having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she's having a boy. (I'm pretty clumsy even before pregnancy. lol. I guess the bruise on my knee of running into something would confirm the later) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale#12: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she's having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she's having a girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #13: Dad's Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it's a girl. If he doesn't gain weight, you're having a boy. (Well he has been dieting and working out to lose weight so it messes with the outcome) Prediction Outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #14: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having. (I don't know if it is because I'm hopeful or because this pregnancy is so much different, but I'm thinking pink thoughts. I will say Dan thinks it's a girl and he was right on his prediction with Logan.) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #15: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it's a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl. (I was on the couch for the first 12 weeks) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #16: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy. (I do like cheese, but I'm not a big meat eater) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #17: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you're having a little girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #18: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. (I've only been getting them this past week, but I think it's my allergies) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #19: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. (Dan and I can only solidly agree on our girl names, we're sill back and forth about the boys name) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #20: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

TOTAL GIRL: 14
TOTAL BOY: 4
TOTAL INCONCLUSIVE: 2

Outcome...... TEAM PINK?!

What is your guess?

15 Weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple).

If you have an ultrasound this week you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl!

Baby Bump @ 13 Weeks
Baby Bump @ 15 Weeks

How far along? 15 Weeks

Total weight gain/loss: 0 lbs

Maternity clothes? Bought a few pairs of pants, but I am still wearing pre pregnancy clothes for the most part.

Sleep: Sleeping has been great the past few nights (although waking up at 6:30 am has been a little hard)

Best moment of the week: Feeling more flutters!

Miss anything? Having a glass of wine with my cheesecake (it's a summer night tradition on the weekends with the hubster)

Movement: Little flutters are getting stronger!

Food cravings: Apples, bananas, blueberries, and salad still....but I did want ice cream twice this week. I caved and ate a small cone from McDonalds. I ended up regretting my decision when I got a horrible tummy ache later that night. For those who don't know I was sensitive to dairy before pregnancy, but I'm full on lactose intolerant with this pregnancy.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Dairy, tomatoes, and greasy/fattening food. My allergies have been really bad, but that is due to the early spring and lack of rain here in SC.

Have you started to show yet: It's been about the same since 13 weeks

Gender prediction: Girl <3 We are hopeful!

Labor signs: No

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On and loose still

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy and a little sentimental

Looking forward to: Putting the kiddos room together

Time with Little Man

Toddlers are busy little people by nature. They never slow to down to accommodate you being sick or needing a few extra hours of sleep. It's part of the joys of parenting, but I wouldn't trade it for the world! I know the moments of childhood pass quickly and you really have to stop and make the most out of the precious time you have with them with they are young.  So despite feeling sick, I really tried to make the most out of the time I spent with Logan during our days of staying home and the quick outings. Here a few of my favorite moments from the past four months..

Bathtime Fun!

We took lots of naps together and shared lots of snuggle time

We pretended to be Captain America and Luke Skywalker

Growing & teething really wore both of us out!

We read a lot of books during the day!
He is definitely a little bookworm.

We played a lot in the pool in our backyard

He loves the water!

We even helped water the garden for daddy

Our Little Scare #2

When I hit 9 weeks we had another minor pregnancy scare. I began bleeding & cramping pretty bad again. Back to the Dr's we went to confirm that the pregnancy was still viable and to try again to determine the source of bleeding. Another exam was preformed and ultrasound scheduled.

This is what Logan and I saw

See how much our little one has grown?!
The heartbeat was 185 this time!!

I love that this Ultrasound Tech always gives us 3d photos.

Again we saw a healthy baby. Yeah! Daddy unfortunately missed out on seeing our little one waving and moving around, but Logan loved watching his little sibling up on the monitors.

This time the Dr. was able to pinpoint the source of bleeding. I have what is called a subchorionic hematoma which is a gathering of blood between the membranes of the placenta and the uterus (blood clot). It is quite common, but can cause a greater risk for the placenta to tear away from the uterus and a chance of miscarriage if the blood clot breaks away. The Dr. assured me that most pregnancies progress with no further complications and the clot would either bleed out or be absorbed into the body by 20 weeks. I was put on pelvic rest till my next appt (a month away) and was told to limit my activity. No lifting, working out, vacuuming, etc.

Please note, we are very thankful to finally have answers and feet very confident that the pregnancy will progress with no further complications. So please, no worries!

Why We Waited...

Many of you were surprised that we waited so long to announce the pregnancy. I was very hesitant to publish this post, as I'm a very private person, but I felt I should explain our decision of why we decided to  wait until the "safe marker" at 13 weeks.

When I hit six weeks pregnant we experienced a minor pregnancy scare. I woke up cramping and began spotting. We knew bleeding and a little cramping in pregnancy is common so we didn't think anything of the bleeding until it got worse later that night. The spotting quickly turned to bright red bleeding and the cramping got worse. Knowing the ER couldn't provide us any answers we decided to wait TWO days for  our scheduled obgyn appt. It was a long 48 hours, but I'm glad we decided to wait because I was able to spend the time at home with my little man instead of a hospital for hours.

Who wouldn't want to spend the day with this sweet little boy?!
At our appt. the Dr. did a quick exam, requested bloodwork, and got us in for an ultrasound the same day. The ultrasound was to determine the source of bleeding and to confirm the pregnancy was viable.

This is what we saw...

A healthy little baby with a heartbeat of 160

While the source of bleeding was not determined (they assumed I had lifted/ strained too much) I was put on pelvic rest/ light activity (such as exercising) till our follow up appt. I guess rearranging the living room  that day wasn't a good idea?!

Baby #2

Surprise Revelations

Well, not really a surprise to us as we started trying in January for baby #2, but more so of a shock that it happened so quickly. Logan knew all along though that he was going to be a big brother when I was about two weeks pregnant. Dan joked with him asking "Is mommy going to have a baby?" in which he replied "Yep." He then pointed to my tummy and said "baby" which completely floored us since we hadn't taught him that.  I later read online that children just "know" and can tell you before you even have a test to confirm. I was still hesitant to believe that I was indeed pregnant, but a week later a test confirmed the revelations were true.

How We Broke the News to Daddy- February 10th, 2012

I took a test because I was a day late and it faintly said positive. (The kind of positive were you squint with one eye and hold it up to the light, because you bought the cheapie test at Dollar General) I still wasn't 100% sure so I went to the store and bought a double pack of Clear Blue digital pregnancy tests. Within a second the word "pregnant" popped up and I was in total shock!

Before we started trying Dan told me that he wished I would have surprised him with the news we were going to have a baby. With Logan I was too excited and told him a second after taking the test, so this time I was determined to announce it to him in a cute way. I found out at noon that I was pregnant. This gave me a small time frame to execute my plan since Dan normally got off work at 4:30 p.m. I could have waited a day, but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret.

The Plan

Logan and I ran to Kohl's to pick up a card and tshirt that said "BIG BROTHER." Unfortunately, the shirt I found at Kohl's was a 4t and was way too big for my munchkin so we had to make an impromptu trip across town to Carter's. This trip left us with literally 20 minutes before daddy walked in the door. I had barely enough time to change little man's shirt and write a special message in the card for daddy. Thankfully we managed to pull it off just in the knick of time. When Dan walked thru the door I asked him to change Logan for me since I was tired. I knew this would guarantee that he saw the shirt right away. Well, little man had other plans and just wanted to play a game of tag with his daddy. Which was fine, but the anticipation of waiting another 15 minutes was killing me! Finally, Logan revealed his tshirt when he took off his jacket during tag because he got too hot. When he turned around Dan saw the tshirt. It took him a moment to realize what it said, but when he did his face turned into a big goofy grin. He looked at me in disbelief and we gave him the card. I caught his reaction on video (but he didn't want me to share). He was so funny! Even after the card he asked to see the proof. (I think we surprised him to say the least!)  To celebrate we all went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner and Coldstone for dessert. It was a perfect ending to the day!

We are so excited!
